For all jazz lovers, this month I’ll share two transcriptions from the work of Philly Joe Jones with two great jazz musicians. Let’s start with the first: Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section (Contemporary/Original Jazz Classics, 1957) is an album by Art Pepper. Despite the physical shape and possible exaggerations, he created a milestone with the support of Miles Davis’ legendary rhythm section: Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums.
From the first track “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To” (original composition by Cole Porter), I transcribed the drum accompaniment on the head (where Philly Joe uses the brushes) and the first chorus of saxophone solo. Here you can download the transcription. Keep on drumming!

Hi Francesco
I really enjoy your blog and especially these transcriptions. I have a question for you regarding drumsticks for jazz, as I am currently trying out a whole bunch until I find one that suits me. I was just curious to hear your thoughts and see what drumsticks you use for jazz?
Thanks so much,
Justin
