Another Linkin Park drum transcription is here! “Heavy Is the Crown” is the band’s second single released on September 24, which teases the upcoming album, From Zero, out on November 15. Stylistically, the song can be labeled as nu-metal, echoing the band’s legendary albums Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Verses are sung by Mike Shinoda in rap style, alternated by the explosive chorus provided by Emily Armstrong with a gritty and growl tone similar to Chester Bennington’s vocal style, particularly in the interlude section.
Colin Brittain’s drum part is straightforward, based essentially on one drum groove. It consists of a rock drum beat comprising a simple bass drum pattern, snare on 2 and 4 with a snare hit on the second beat’s last 16th note, and an 8th note hi-hat pattern accenting the downbeat. A variation of the same groove is played in the verse, omitting some bass drum hits and creating more space. That’s a fun and energetic song, especially for beginner drummers and drum teachers to address their young students to rock drumming.
