Last month, I shared a short video featuring some hand/foot combinations using the Stick Control book. This application, inspired by Alan Dawson’s method, consists of the first 12 exercises of the “Single Beat Combinations” (you can also use the rest of the exercises, from pages 5 to 7) applied on the drumset in this way:
- Right Hand = Snare
- Left Hand = Bass Drum
The exercise is written in 16th notes, as indicated in the notation.
Repeat each line four times without stopping, and when you are comfortable, apply the exercises on the entire drum set (tom, floor tom, and cymbals). Also, try swinging the 16th notes with the left foot hi-hat on 2 and 4. Keep on drumming!
