For jazz lovers this month I’ll share two transcriptions from the work of Philly Joe Jones with two great jazz musicians…
Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section (Contemporary/Original Jazz Classics, 1957) is a legendary album, despite the physical shape and possible exaggerations Art Pepper created his milestone, with the support of Miles Davis’ rhythm section.
Personnel
- Art Pepper – alto saxophone
- Red Garland – piano
- Paul Chambers – bass
- Philly Joe Jones – drums
From the first track “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To” (original composition by Cole Porter) I transcribed the drum accompaniment on the head (where Philly Joe uses the brushes) and the first chorus of the saxophone solo. Here’s the download link, enjoy.
Hi Francesco
I really enjoy your blog and especially these transcriptions. I have a question for you regarding drumsticks for jazz as I am currently trying out a whole bunch until I find one that suits me. I was just curious to hear your thoughts and see what drumsticks you use for jazz?
Thanks so much,
Justin
