Milton Banana was a Brazilian drummer who invented the bossa nova drumming style. He was a prolific session man who recorded extensively with Tom Jobim, João Donato, and many others. He also performed gigs every night with people like Luís Eça, Johnny Alf, Roberto Menescal, Carlos Lyra, Ed Lincoln, Newton Mendoça, Claudette Soares, Baden Powell, Sérgio Mendes, Luís Bonfá, Bola Sete and others.
From the album Sambas De Bossa (1993) by Milton Banana Trio, along with Walter Wanderley on piano and Jose Alves on double bass, I chose to share with you “Serrado” who was composed by Djavan in 1978. Milton Banana is a master and his playing is very clean and accurate especially the work with the right hand on the hi-hat and the ride cymbal.
